Frequently asked questions
How are prayer times calculated?
Times are calculated from the position of the sun relative to the horizon. Fajr begins when the sun is 18° below the horizon; Isha when it is 17° below. The Diyanet also applies precautionary margins (temkin) of −7 minutes for sunrise, +5 for Dhuhr, +4 for Asr and +7 for Maghrib.
Is my district's time different from the provincial centre's?
Because of east-west distance, districts may differ from the provincial centre by a minute or two. For official times, see the Diyanet's namazvakitleri.diyanet.gov.tr page. Mumin App lets you choose your district.
Mumin App is a free app that shows prayer times and plays the adhan when each prayer time begins. It works on iPhone and Android. It shows no ads and does not ask you to sign up.
