What Is an Imsakiye? Ramadan 2027 Calendar and Key Dates

Last updated: · Published by: DODO İLERİ TEKNOLOJİ VE TİCARET A.Ş. (Mumin App) · Reading time about 5 min

An imsakiye is a daily calendar showing the imsak, iftar and other prayer times for every day of Ramadan. From this table you learn when to stop eating when you get up for suhoor, when to break your fast and after what time the Tarawih prayer begins. The official imsakiyes are published by Turkey's Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet).

How do you read an imsakiye?

The columns in an imsakiye are the same as in a daily prayer-times table. Three columns are especially important:

According to Diyanet's explanation, outside Ramadan the morning adhan is called about an hour before sunrise, whereas in Ramadan it is called at imsak. Diyanet states that when the adhan begins, the morsel in the mouth may be swallowed, and it does not recommend any extra precautionary margin. The same explanation also says that an adhan called early does not make eating forbidden, and an adhan called late does not make eating permissible; what counts is the imsak time.

Ramadan 2027: key dates

According to Diyanet's religious days calendar, Ramadan 2027 falls as follows:

Key dates for Ramadan 2027
DayDateNote
First Tarawih7 February 2027, SundayThe first night of Ramadan
Start of Ramadan8 February 2027, Monday1 Ramadan 1448
Laylat al-Qadr5 March 2027, FridayThe night linking the 26th to the 27th of Ramadan
Eve of Eid (Arefe)8 March 2027, MondayThe day before Eid
Eid al-Fitr9–11 March 20271 Shawwal 1448 and the following two days

According to Diyanet's Hijri calendar, Ramadan 1448 lasts 29 days: from 8 February 2027 to 8 March 2027. The dates are based on Diyanet's crescent-moon calculation and are explained in detail in our Hijri calendar guide.

Sample times for the first day

Below are the imsak and iftar times calculated for 8 February 2027 in three major provinces. Daily tables for all provinces are on our imsakiye 2027 page.

These times are calculated for the provincial-center coordinates using the calculation method Diyanet uses. When the official imsakiye is published, it should be taken as the authority.

Until when can the intention to fast be made?

According to Diyanet's explanation, for the Ramadan fast, a fast vowed for a specific day, and a voluntary fast, the intention can be made from the evening until about 10 minutes before the sun reaches its zenith the next day. For a make-up fast, an expiation (kaffarah) fast and an unspecified vowed fast, the intention must be made at the latest by imsak. In the Shafi'i school, for fasts other than voluntary ones the intention must be made during the night; you can consult Diyanet for details.

Provincial center or district?

Diyanet publishes the imsakiye at the province and district level. Since the tables on this site are calculated for provincial-center coordinates, if you live in a district far to the east or west of the center, the imsak and iftar times may differ by a few minutes. For imsak and iftar times, where a minute has religious consequences, the safest way is to check your district's official imsakiye on Diyanet's page.

Deviation from the calendar: why the minute matters

According to Decision No. 8 of the Supreme Board of Religious Affairs, relying on calendars is the basis for determining prayer, imsak and iftar times. Thanks to the temkin (safety margin), breaking the fast by mistake 2–3 minutes before the Maghrib time written in the calendar does not invalidate the fast; if the fast is broken earlier than that, the fast must be made up. For this reason, make sure your phone's clock is set automatically and is accurate.

Suhoor, iftar and Tarawih

Suhoor is the meal eaten before imsak for the fast; in terms of time it extends up to the imsak time. The last part of the night, called sahar, is also suitable for suhoor, but Diyanet does not specify an exact hour limit for sahar; for this reason, the sahar times in calendars should be thought of as approximate ranges. The fast is broken as soon as the Maghrib time enters.

The time of the Tarawih prayer is the time of Isha, and it is performed after the obligatory Isha prayer; there is no make-up for Tarawih. For this reason the Isha time in the imsakiye also shows the start time of Tarawih.

As an iftar supplication, the short form found in hadith sources is "Allahumma laka sumtu wa ala rizqika aftartu" (O Allah, I fasted for You and I broke my fast with Your provision); it is narrated as mursal in Abu Dawud, Siyam 22. The second supplication, "Dhahaba al-zama'u wa-btallati al-'uruqu wa thabata al-ajru insha'Allah", is also reported in the same chapter as hasan. The additional parts of the long form popular among people, such as "wa bika amantu wa 'alayka tawakkaltu", are not found in the hadith sources. For the accuracy of the texts, consult Diyanet's publications.

Fitr and fidya

Turkey's Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) announces the amounts of fitr (zakat al-fitr) and the fasting fidya separately every year before Ramadan. Check the current amount to be announced for Ramadan 2027 from Diyanet's official announcement; no amount is stated on this page.
